Standardized Testing

The term -standardized testing seems to have a negative connotation. As Canada we like to think that we are proud of our diversity. We identify ourselves as a multicultural country. Therefore, you think that we would accept the many unique characteristics and ideals that each ethnic group brings “to the table” in a sense. Ideally, these differences should be celebrated. When it comes to education of our youth – we know that differences in the way students learn exist. This is why the idea of standardized testing seems ridiculous. Not only does it obtain complete control of what the teacher has to teach in a given time period, it also requires the diverse population of students to all learn in the exact same way. Should we not be encouraging to each of our students?
